Artificial Turf San Diego

Grass That Stays Green Long After the Rain

Synthetic lawns, pet runs, and putting greens laid over a drainage base, so the yard stays green and drains after a rinse.

ER-100 · Artificial Grass & Turf

Turf Is a Drainage System With Grass on Top

A synthetic lawn only works when everything underneath it is built right. The base, drainage, seams, infill and edges all have to work together before the turf is ever laid.

Skip that groundwork and the problems show up fast. Low spots form, seams pull apart, edges lift and water sits where it should drain.

We build the system from the ground up, compacting the base, planning drainage and securing every edge before the turf goes down. The result stays level, drains properly and keeps its shape for years.

ER-200 · What We Build

Every Place Turf Makes Sense

The build changes with what walks on it.

Artificial Grass Lawns

Full front and back lawns in synthetic turf over a compacted drainage base.

Pet Turf & Dog Runs

Pet-rated turf on a drainage pad with infill that does not hold odor.

Putting Greens

Short-pile putting surfaces with cups, fringe, and a rolled base that holds speed.

Play Areas & Padding

Turf over a shock pad for swing sets and play zones, softer than lawn.

Base & Drainage

Compacted aggregate, a permeable layer, and a fall, so water leaves instead of sitting.

Infill & Seaming

Infill holds the blades upright, and a planned seam layout is the one you never see.

Turf Fails in the Base, Not the Blade

Every dip, ripple, and lifted edge is a base problem showing through. The aggregate has to be compacted in lifts and graded to fall before a single roll is unwrapped. The turf itself rarely wears out first.

Smell Is a Drainage Problem

Turf that smells after a wet week is turf holding liquid somewhere. A pet build gets a permeable pad, a free-draining base, and an infill that does not hold odor, so a rinse actually clears it.

What Turf Saves and What It Does Not

Turf ends the mowing, the water bill, and the brown patches. It does not qualify for the turf replacement rebate; it gets warm in direct afternoon sun, and it has a replacement date. We say all three before you buy.

What Artificial Grass Costs

Turf prices by the square foot, and six things move that number.

Area & Shape

Square footage sets the baseline. Curves, islands, and narrow strips add cutting and waste.

Turf Specification

Pile height, face weight, and backing separate a short-life lawn from a long one.

Base & Excavation

How much soil comes out and how much aggregate goes in, driven by drainage.

Demolition & Haul Away

Removing the old lawn, roots, sprinkler lines, or a slab, and the tonnage leaving the site.

Pet or Play Build

Drainage pads, specialty infill, and shock padding all cost more than a standard lawn build.

Edging & Transitions

How turf meets pavers, concrete, planting beds and fences, priced foot by foot.

Every turf estimate is built from a measured plan that includes the turf specification, base depth, and infill. Pet and play upgrades are priced as separate lines rather than being buried in a square-foot rate.

ER-800 · COMMON QUESTIONS

Artificial Grass, Answered

Does artificial turf qualify for a water rebate?

No. The regional turf replacement rebate that San Diego County agencies run requires living plants at a rate of three per 100 square feet and does not accept synthetic turf as an approved conversion. If the rebate is the reason you are pulling out the lawn, low-water planting is the route, and that work is on our drought-tolerant landscaping page. Turf still takes the irrigation off your bill; it just does not come with a rebate. Programs change, so we confirm the current rules with your agency before you commit.

Does artificial turf smell if I have dogs?

Not when it is built for pets. Smell comes from liquid sitting in the base or in an absorbent infill, so a pet build uses a permeable drainage pad, a free-draining base, and an infill that does not hold odor. Rinsing does the rest, and it takes minutes. A standard lawn build with dogs on it is where the complaints come from, which is why we quote the two differently.

Does artificial grass get hot?

In direct afternoon sun, yes, warmer than living grass. Shade, a rinse, or lighter-colored turf all bring it down, and it cools quickly once the sun moves off. It is worth knowing before you choose, especially for a south- or west-facing yard with dogs or small children, so we will tell you which parts of your yard this applies to rather than leaving you to find out.

How long does artificial turf last, and what is the warranty?

Good turf on a properly built base generally lasts many years before the blades lose their spring, and the base outlives the turf, so a replacement later is a turf change rather than a rebuild. Our turf carries a manufacturer warranty. Sun exposure and traffic are what actually set the date, more than the age on paper.

Can turf go over concrete, or on a slope?

Both, with conditions. Over concrete, it needs a drainage path and usually a pad, since a slab that ponds will hold water under the turf. On a slope, it needs the same compacted base, plus fixing at the top so it cannot creep; on a steep grade, a retaining wall or terracing may be the better answer. We will tell you which one your yard is.
