How much does a kitchen remodel cost in San Diego?
Cabinetry is usually the largest line, and scope decides everything else. A cosmetic refresh keeping the existing layout, with doors and counters replaced, sits at the bottom. A full gut renovation with a new layout, custom cabinetry and stone counters sits well above it. Moving plumbing or removing a wall adds structural and trade costs on top. We price from a measured plan with every line item itemized.
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
Design and permitting come first and often take as long as the build. On site, most kitchens run several weeks to a few months depending on scope, and cabinetry lead time usually sets the critical path. We order cabinets before demolition so the room is not sitting open waiting on a delivery. You get dates and weekly updates against them.
Can we live in the house during the remodel?
Almost always, yes, and most of our clients do. We seal the work area, protect the route in and out and help you set up a temporary kitchen with a fridge, microwave and access to a sink. What you will not have is a working kitchen, and we will tell you the real number of weeks for that before you commit.
Do I need permits to remodel a kitchen?
Usually. Work involving electrical circuits, plumbing, gas lines or any structural change generally requires a permit and inspections in California and removing a load-bearing wall needs structural design. A purely cosmetic refresh may not. We confirm what your project needs, pull the permits and meet the inspectors.
Can you open my kitchen up to the living room?
Often, yes, and it is one of the most common requests we get. What decides it is whether the wall is load-bearing and what runs inside it. If it is structural, the opening needs a beam and proper support, which is an engineering and cost issue rather than an obstacle. We find out what is in the wall before quoting it, not after opening it.
Do you do small kitchens and partial remodels?
Yes, and small San Diego kitchens are some of the most satisfying work we do. Reworking storage, changing a layout inside the existing footprint or refacing sound cabinets can transform a room for a fraction of a gut renovation. We will tell you honestly when a partial remodel is the better value.
What if my project is bigger than the kitchen?
If the kitchen is part of a wider renovation covering two or more other rooms, our whole home remodeling page is the better starting point. Same team, one contract, sequenced across the house so you are not living through three separate projects.
